As an industrial project management company, we keep your projects on track by coordinating your work as a contractor or engineering firm with that of manufacturers and regulating bodies to stay on deadline for completion of electrical services and equipment installations for new as well as renovated facilities. Our design and build services and our arc and short circuit studies help you get started on the right foot. Special to New York City, our Advisory Board drawings help you eliminate regulatory surprises, while our specially prepared operations and maintenance manuals help owners and contractors keep equipment in top condition for years to come.
DESIGN AND BUILD
More than providing drawings, our design and build services engage engineering firms in dialogue about the specific breakers, transformers and other equipment they'll need for a given job, down to individual part numbers, saving time in the planning phase.
Avoid surprises with dedicated assistance to ensure that short circuits don't take down critical areas of your installation. Our power system engineer will trace the path of any potential breaker or fuse activations and isolate them to avoid domino effects that can trip other breakers or fuses unnecessarily.
Arc flash is deadly, and the last place you want to discover an electrical system design flaw that makes them more likely is after the system has been built. Our arc flash studies can spot problems in the design phase, before putting operations and maintenance workers in harm's way.
New York City is unique for the electrical system drawings required by its Electrical Advisory Board. Turtle's decades of experience in this area allow us to give this important regulating body exactly what it needs to approve your project, so that your contractors can get to work as quickly as possible.
No need to wait for all the different manufacturers to provide cookie-cutter operations and maintenance manuals for the switchgear, transformers, motor control centers and other equipment you install. We can put together comprehensive manuals more quickly and for your specific installation.
Detailed analysis of the spaces in which you need to install lighting lets us help you determine the number, type and spacing of lighting fixtures for office buildings, warehouses, parking lots and more. Our connections with manufacturers help you define exactly what you need as efficiently as possible while making it easy to ensure that your projects are up to code.

When a new 21-story research center was being constructed in New York City, Turtle & Hughes Lighting department put together one of its most complex packages ever. This included custom-designed lab bench lighting fixtures that work in conjunction with a daylight harvesting system and a shade control system. The system prevents light pollution at night, creating a controlled environment to conduct research so scientists could achieve a better understanding of the disease and how to manage it.
Hudson Yards is the largest development in New York City in almost 100 years; a self-contained neighborhood with residential, office and commercial buildings, shops, restaurants, a creative hub, parks, playgrounds and a school. Two cogeneration plants — with switchgear from Turtle & Hughes — form a smart microgrid, which is designed to keep the complex running, even in the event a power outage.
When it opened in 2013, the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection facility became the world’s largest UV water treatment facility, covering two billion gallons of drinking water and adding a layer of protection for more than nine million New York residents. Turtle & Hughes consulted on the project prior to construction, provided project management and equipment during the construction, and continues to offer technical support today.
