DESIGN AND BUILD

COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION DESIGN

Starting with a phone call, engineering firms, contractors and owners can engage us for commercial construction design and advice on what specific breakers, transformers and other pieces of equipment to install on a job. Given our close relationships with major manufacturers, we can not only advise on the classes of equipment needed, but also on specific part numbers from a range of providers. That means no more guessing or last minute adjustments on the job, and that means time saved and deadlines met. As engineering design build consultants, we can then carry over the designs into the construction phase with our own managers to ensure that everything matches up. It's all about ensuring consistency from initial concept to finished project.

FROM ADVICE TO DESIGN

MORE THAN DRAWINGS

Good design starts with clarity on what's required for the job. That's why we do more than just produce drawings and lists of part numbers—although we do that too. And since a good design is only as valuable as its execution, we're there to help manage the build phase.

  • Initial consultation helps get your design started on the right foot.
  • Parts lists include the best equipment for the job, no matter what the manufacturer.
  • Build oversight from Turtle & Hughes helps ensure that finished projects meet design specs.

  • LIGHTING APPLICATIONS

    SUCCESS STORY

    SHEDDING LIGHT ON CANCER RESEARCH

When a new 21-story research center was being constructed in New York City, Turtle & Hughes Lighting department put together one of its most complex packages ever. This included custom-designed lab bench lighting fixtures that work in conjunction with a daylight harvesting system and a shade control system. The system prevents light pollution at night, creating a controlled environment to conduct research so scientists could achieve a better understanding of the disease and how to manage it.

  • POWER DISTRIBUTION

    SUCCESS STORY

    POWERING THE FUTURE

Hudson Yards is the largest development in New York City in almost 100 years; a self-contained neighborhood with residential, office and commercial buildings, shops, restaurants, a creative hub, parks, playgrounds and a school. Two cogeneration plants — with switchgear from Turtle & Hughes — form a smart microgrid, which is designed to keep the complex running, even in the event a power outage.

  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    SUCCESS STORY

    DRINK UP, NEW YORK

When it opened in 2013, the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection facility became the world’s largest UV water treatment facility, covering two billion gallons of drinking water and adding a layer of protection for more than nine million New York residents. Turtle & Hughes consulted on the project prior to construction, provided project management and equipment during the construction, and continues to offer technical support today.
