Workforce Diversity
Turtle & Hughes has demonstrated an environment of inclusion among its' workforce.
With locations in the northeast as well as the southwest, there is diversity on many levels including middle and senior management.
Monthly departmental and managerial meetings enable employees to voice opinions, help shape new policies and implement procedures that effect improved employee efficiency and productivity.
In house workshops and training sessions often encourage employees to attend specialized industry seminars, schools and conferences thereby enhancing their value to the company.
Most promotions are made from within the company so education assistance is a priority.
The tuition reimbursement program is available to all employees who seek to further their education in industry related fields and advance their careers.
It is this vision that allows Turtle & Hughes to meet it's retention and leadership development goals.
The Operations Training and Summer Intern Programs have successfully provided employment opportunities for many pre-college and undergraduate students.
These entry level positions introduce participants to basic business principles and hands on experience in the full scope of day to day management.
Supplier Diversity
Supplier Diversity programs have been around in American business and industry for some thirty years, but they have expanded significantly in number and scope over the last decade as more women and minority-owned businesses and organizations have established themselves as critical players in the marketplace.
Turtle & Hughes has been involved with such programs through the 1990's but at the turn of the millineum, company president, Suzanne Millard, decided the time had come for a Supplier Diversity Program at Turtle & Hughes.
As a woman-owned business, Turtle & Hughes understands the challenges facing today's minority and women business enterprises (M/WBE's) and we support the efforts of those organizations that work diligently to open the doors of opportunity.
Turtle & Hughes is the largest independent, woman-owned electrical distributor in the states of New York and New Jersey doing business with many of the utility, construction, MRO and transit corporations in the tri-state area.

The Turtle & Hughes Supplier Diversity Program is committed to the development of minority and women-owned businesses.
Supporting these enterprises contributes to the socio-economic growth of the communities we serve.
We are dedicated to assist in the creation of business relationships with M/WBE's through our continuing efforts to encourage and enable these businesses to participate in our operations as service and support providers and by affording competitive procurement opportunities.

President Suzanne Millard was recently honored at the Salute to Women Leaders Luncheon held by NJAWBO and has been named one of the top 50 women business owners in the country by Working Woman Magazine.

Doing Business with Us
Turtle & Hughes fully supports the inclusion and participation of certified minority and women-owned business enterprises.
Proper documentation from a government or approved agency is required for addition to our M/WBE supplier database.
Acceptable certifications are available from:
l State Certifying Agency
l National Minority Supplier Development Council or an Affiliate Council
l Women's Business Enterprise National Council
If your business is not certified, we will assist you in this process to ensure your eligibility to participate in our program
Once added to the supplier database your information is made available corporate wide.
As opportunities are identified those businesses that are potential matches are notified and invited to present their product or service.
Vendors are selected based upon their ability to show preparedness, performance and reliability.
